Treacle Tart

Treacle tart is one of our favourites in this house, we don't make it that often but when we do it's always thoroughly enjoyed.

It's become a replacement birthday bake for my other half – I've got to say I think I'd choose this over cake too.

This year we tried out a different recipe after seeing Tom Kerridge make it on Best ever Dishes, it just looked so good. I didn't manage to make his bran flake pastry, for me it was just to short and fell apart as I tried to handle it. I ended up chucking the pastry in a bit of a tantrum and re-making my usual sweet pastry.

The recipe was a bit more of a faff than my usual one but it was worth the wait. This one was seriously sweet and indulgent, it has a LOT of golden syrup and browned butter in it, with double cream, egg yolks and brioche crumbs added to that. Very naughty indeed, but very nice.

I have to have mine slightly warm with vanilla ice cream, that's just the way we like it.

In 2015 I made it through to the last 50 in the last audition of The Great British Bake Off. Sadly I wasn't chosen for the programme but I need to carry on my journey as I can't imagine my life without baking.

I'd love to start writing my own recipes. So what better place to do it than starting a blog.
